As the EVCs for PA-8 & PA-13, we paired up to hit many of the shared districts around Montgomery & Bucks Counties. Though we did not have time to visit every legislative office in the area, we did have productive meetings with Representatives Frank Farry, Bob Godshall, and Marguerite Quinn. We also had the opportunity to meet with Senator Bob Mensch, and the staff of Senator Chuck McIlhinney.

With all districts reporting, Bob Mensch won in a landslide 36 point win!

Thank you to all of the gun owners who voted in yesterday’s special election for the Senate seat in district 24. Because of you, NRA-endorsed Bob Mensch won in a blowout, sending a clear message to Harrisburg.

For all of you who took a few hours to contribute to the campaign, a much bigger thanks goes out to you. Turnout was key in the special election, and whether you knocked on doors, made phone calls, or just reminded your pro-freedom friends and family to vote, you made a difference. Even those of you who didn’t have time to contribute, but who put on a bumper sticker or put out a sign, it was an important show of support for a worthy candidate.

Special elections are a time when gun owners can really shine. The Reporter says that turnout was just under 13% for the special election in Montgomery County. Tallies from the other three counties are likely on par, or lower. With less than 19,000 people voting, a handful of pro-gun votes can make a huge difference. More importantly, a few pro-gun volunteers who tell the candidate why they turned out can leave a lasting impression that we do work for our rights, and we will work for politicians who work to protect our rights.

The next elections are municipal elections on November 3. Again, turnout is usually extremely low. Voters in House district 147 will likely face another special election sometime after that to elect a replacement for Rep. Mensch once he is sworn into the Senate.

The NRA Political Victory Fund has endorsed Rep. Bob Mensch for the seat. They are joined by area newspapers who value his experience and previous service to the district’s residents.

The district is a rather odd one, so double check your status as a resident to find out if you need to be at the polls tomorrow.

Polls will be open from 7am to 8pm. If you need assistance in learning about your county’s voting system, the state has provided an easy guide to help you understand it.

NRA's Political Victory Fund announced their endorsement of Rep. Bob Mensch in the special election for Pennsylvania's 24th Senate District.

Today, NRA’s Political Victory Fund announced their endorsement of Representative Bob Mensch in the special election for Pennsylvania’s 24th Senate District.

“Bob Mensch has a strong commitment to the Second Amendment and Pennsylvania’s rich hunting heritage,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “Because of his pro-gun votes, Bob Mensch has earned an ‘A’ rating and an endorsement from NRA-PVF.”

As a State Representative, Bob Mensch opposed the mandatory reporting of lost or stolen firearms, a bill that would have turned law-abiding gun-owners who already have been victimized by theft, into criminals. He voted in favor of legislation that would allow the carrying of concealed firearms in state parks, expanding the right to self-defense in Pennsylvania.

“The stakes have never been higher in the effort to preserve our freedom. Gun-owners and NRA members must continue voting for candidates who support our Second Amendment at all levels of local, state and federal government,” Cox continued. “Sportsmen and gun owners in Pennsylvania can trust Rep. Mensch, and trust his promise to support and defend their Second Amendment rights. We urge all NRA members and gun owners in Pennsylvania Senate District 24 to vote for Bob Mensch on September 29.”

Because of the timing of this special election, turnout will likely be very low. It is important that gun owners show up to make their voices heard. In Representative Mensch, we can trust that our rights will be protected.

At this time, it is unclear whether or not his opponent has any rating. However, Representative Mensch has a record we can count on as lawful gun owners.

Senate District 24 includes the following Bucks County towns: Durham, East Rockhill, Milford, Nockamixon, Quakertown, Richland, Richlandtown, Riegelsville, Springfield, and Trumbauersville. In Montgomery County, the following towns are included in the district: East Greenville, Green Lane, Lansdale, Lower Frederick, Lower Salford, Marlborough, New Hanover, Pennsburg, Red Hill, Salford, Towamencin, Upper Hanover, and Upper Salford.

UPDATE: Bucks County has opted not to move Quakertown polls in the schools, so voters will report to their normal polling location. However, one Springfield polling site has been temporarily moved:

On Sept. 29, voters who normally cast ballots at Zion Lutheran Church must report to Springfield Church of the Bretheren at 920 Passer Road.

Voters affected by the temporary change will receive special postcards in the mail.

—
Local media outlets report that polling locations in upper Bucks County could be moved just before a special election for the region’s Senate seat in district 24. The decision will likely be approved at tonight’s Board of Elections meeting. At this time, it appears to primarily impact Quakertown elementary schools which previously housed polls on Election Day.

The Bucks County Board of Elections is expected to vote at its Tuesday meeting to relocate these polls. If approved, the school district would no longer have to cancel classes on election days.

This issue came to a head this month when the district realized there would be significant scheduling problems and a cost associated with the special Sept. 29 election for the 24th state Senate District, a seat vacated with the resignation of Rob Wonderling. …

The following are the proposed polling place changes to be approved by the election board:

Neidig Elementary to Trinity Lutheran Church, 102 N. Hellertown Ave.

Quakertown Elementary to the James A. Michener branch of the Bucks County Library, 401 W. Mill St.

Tohickon Valley Elementary to East Swamp Church, 2405 East Swamp Rd.

Richland Elementary to Strayer Middle School, 1200 Ronald Reagan Dr.

Although Strayer is a Quakertown district school, the building has a separate section that can accommodate voters without interfering with students. …

There is one other proposed polling place change associated with the special election.

The county is expected to move Springfield voters who normally cast ballots at Zion Lutheran Church to Springfield Church of the Brethren at 920 Passer Rd.

Zion Lutheran cannot accommodate voters on Sept. 29. The move, if approved Tuesday, would be temporary and voters would be back at Zion Lutheran for the general election on Nov. 3.

Should there be changes made to these proposed locations, we will notify the area’s gun owners.

The special election for the region’s Senate district currently has no endorsed candidate. The Republican nominee, Rep. Bob Mensch, has previously been endorsed for his House seat and maintained an A rating for his work on behalf of Pennsylvania’s sportsmen. The Democratic nominee, Anne Scheuring, has no voting record or grade at this time. Barbara Steever, the Libertarian nominee, is also unrated at this time.

Gun owners and Second Amendment supporters living in any of the towns located in Pennsylvania’s 24th Senate district need to make sure they are registered to vote before the deadline of August 30. (Since the deadline for registration falls on Sunday, the practical deadline is this Friday, August 28.)

Two candidates have declared for the race, but no NRA endorsement has been issued at this time. The Democratic candidate is Anne Henning Scheuring, a Lansdale councilwoman. As of the date of this publication, she has no NRA rating.

The Republican candidate is Rep. Bob Mensch of the 147th state House district. In the fall 2008 elections, Rep. Mensch received an A rating and the NRA’s endorsement. However, it is not clear if this grade will change or he will be endorsed in the special election. Should NRA opt to endorse either candidate, we will notify local gun owners. (Sign up to receive more information about how you can help to elect pro-gun candidates.)

According to the NRA, upwards of 22 million gun owners may not be registered to vote.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 72 percent (142 million) of the eligible voting age citizen population (197 million) was registered to vote in 2004.

This means that more than 55 million people were unregistered, and therefore did not participate in the November 2004 elections. This figure is larger than the number of votes cast for either George Bush (50.5 million) or Al Gore (50.9 million) in the 2000 elections.

To support this effort, NRA is working with member Chuck Norris to recruit gun owners to get prepared to hit the polls in time for next year’s primary & general elections.

Gun owners in upper Bucks and Montgomery Counties need to turn out for a special election in Senate District 24. At this time, only Rep. Bob Mensch has declared his candidacy.

Gun owners in upper Bucks and Montgomery Counties will want to pencil in September 29 as the date of a special election for state Senate. So far, only one candidate has declared his candidacy for the post – Rep. Bob Mensch of the 147th state House district.

In the fall 2008 elections, Rep. Mensch received an A rating and the NRA’s endorsement. An endorsement for the special election may depend on whether any challengers emerge from other parties. Should such an announcement be made, we will notify residents of the area.

Senate District 24 includes the following Bucks County towns: Durham, East Rockhill, Milford, Nockamixon, Quakertown, Richland, Richlandtown, Riegelsville, Springfield, and Trumbauersville. In Montgomery County, the following towns are included in the district: East Greenville, Green Lane, Lansdale, Lower Frederick, Lower Salford, Marlborough, New Hanover, Pennsburg, Red Hill, Salford, Towamencin, Upper Hanover, and Upper Salford.

In order to vote in the special election, you must be registered by August 30, 2009. Find out more about registering to vote here.
